The Independent Police Complaints Commission has concluded a lengthy and complex managed investigation into complaints about how Humberside Police conducted an investigation into alleged physical and sexual abuse at St Williams Children’s Home, Market Weighton, East Yorkshire between 1965 and 1992. Humberside Police’s Operation Aldgate began in April 2001 to investigate complaints made by former residents of the home, which was run by the De La Salle teaching order to provide residential care and education for emotionally and behaviourally disturbed males aged 11 to 18.  Fifteen people, including nine retired and three serving police officers, are to be charged with perverting the course of justice and perjury in connection with the murder of a young woman more than 20 years ago. Lynette White, 20, a prostitute, was found stabbed to death in a flat in Cardiff on Valentine’s Day, 1988. Three men were sentenced to life for her murder in 1990 but their convictions were quashed by the Court of Appeal in 1992.  When Peter Mahon was unlawfully removed from his house by police, he did not expect to spend four years chasing his case through the courts. Asleep on his sofa in November 2004, he was woken at 1.30am by two uniformed police officers who told him to leave or be arrested. Cleared PC found dying on Snowdon

The BBC have reported that a police officer eho was recently cleared of assault  was found dying on Snowdon.  A police officer who was cleared of wrongdoing after punching a woman while trying to arrest her has died after being found in north Wales. Pc Anthony Mulhall, of South Yorkshire, was found on Snowdon on Thursday, but died in hospital on Friday. He was removed from frontline duties in March 2007 when he was caught on CCTV hitting Toni Comer, 21, as he tried to subdue her outside a Sheffield club. It has been reported in the Independant newspaper that the Police face a legal challenge over crimninal records checks. John Pinnington is the kind of public-spirited volunteer on whom many communities depend. Claims a former chief constable may have been biased in a reported child sex abuse inquiry have been dismissed by the force he worked for. Terry Grange retired from Dyfed-Powys Police after allegations of computer misuse and financial irregularities. It has since emerged there had also been a claim of bias against Mr Grange in relation to the child abuse inquiry.  A chief constable is being investigated over his force’s dismissal of child abuse allegations against a judge.The police watchdog stepped in after claims that the officer allowed his professional relationship with the circuit judge to prejudice the force’s actions. A police watchdog is to investigate the case of an innocent man who was jailed for a sex attack which never happened. The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) is to examine conduct of Northamptonshire Police officers after a complaint by Warren Blackwell. Mr Blackwell, 37, was jailed in 1999 for indecently assaulting a woman outside a club at New Year’s Eve party. Complaints have been upheld against South Wales Police on the handling of the rape of a man after he was wrongly accused of being a paedophile. The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) accused the force and some individual officers of failing Geoffrey Cole. South Wales Police have apologised to Mr Cole, 60, and his wife. A prostitute who made a false claim that she had been raped by a police officer in a cell has been jailed for four months.Martina Longbottom made a detailed 10-page statement about the alleged rape in a cell at Bethel Street Police Station.At first her complaint was investigated as a matter of urgency and the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) was called in.But the police station’s CCTV footage soon revealed that no officer matching Longbottom’s description had been in the station at the relevant time.
