We have three excellent speakers, and we will also be discussing the implications of the Henriques Report.
Denis and Aideen Jones will be talking about their experiences following their arrest by Operation Pallial in August 2013 for false allegations of historic child abuse and child cruelty.
Both spent their careers working with and campaigning and supporting children and vulnerable adults. Aideen was awarded the OBE for her work with adults with learning difficulties, and Denis has a PhD for his research into the history of residential child care and the custody of young offenders. They lost their jobs as the result of the allegations. Since they were acquitted they have become active members of FACT and other groups supporting victims of wrongful allegations.
Our other speaker, Gurpal Virdi, is well known for campaigning for the fair treatment of ethnic minority groups. He completed 30 years of unblemished service in the police force, in uniform and in the CID. During his campaign to become a Labour Councillor he faced false allegations by the police force. He lost his job.
In July 2015, Gurpal was cleared at Southwark Crown court of any wrongdoing. Gurpal has been recognised for his police service by being awarded with commendations and medals. He believes in the principle of natural justice, equality and Human Rights. He is now a councillor for the London Borough of Hounslow.
