Should doctors convicted of sexual offences be automatically banned?

There is an interesting, and in many ways, a controversial blog (here) by  Charles Foster on the Halsbury Law Exchange website regarding whether or not doctors convicted of sexual offences should be automatically banned from practising.

The main thrust of Mr Foster’s argument (which also applies to other professionals) is that each case should be examined on its merits and that, for example, doctors who are convicted (rightly or wrongly) of say a minor sexual offence (possible as juvenile or in early adulthood) should have a right to appeal against any decision that this automatically makes them unsuitable to practice.
