Home Office rules for counting crimes
Our attention has been brought to the Home Office’s Counting Rules for recording notifiable offences. These rules were developed in consultation with the Association of Chief Police OfficersPolice Forces and other key stakeholders to provide Force Crime Registrars (FCRs) with policy for crime recording in England and Wales. The Rules were revised to take account of the introduction of the National Crime Recording Standard which was adopted on 1 April 2002 to promote greater consistency between Police Forces in the recording of crime.
The Counting Rules are revised annually and the most recent revisions to the Rules are effective from 1 April 2008.
