FACT has often argued that the issue of compensation has been a motivating factor in generating false accusations. News this week that nearly 6,000 people put in bogus compensation claims to the Financial Ombudsman last year, saying they had been mis-sold Payment Protection Insurance (PPI) coming on top the miners compensation scandal which resulted in three solicitors being struck off by the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal provides ample evade of how corrupting the prospect of compensation can be for some lawyers and for some claimants.

The Ombudsman Service,  has raised concerns that in respect of potential banks are being exploited by claims companies. Millions they say are are being encouraged by claims companies to put in complaints about PPI cover even by people who never had a policy.
