Crown solicitor concludes Easling trial process ‘ethical’

A Crown Solicitor’s review of a trial process involving a man who was acquitted of 18 sexual abuse charges has found his prosecution was conducted ethically, properly and appropriately.  A Crown Solicitor’s review of a trial process involving a man who was acquitted of 18 sexual abuse charges has found his prosecution was conducted ethically, properly and appropriately. Supporters of Thomas Frank Easling want an inquiry into the charges and his trial process. Mr Easling was acquitted two years ago. His lawyers then asked Attorney-General Michael Atkinson for an investigation of the case against their client and the process. The minister has now tabled the report. Mr Atkinson says the Crown Solicitor found no bias or impropriety in the case against Mr Easling. He says submissions by the lawyers do not provide the basis for an inquiry into the investigation of Mr Easling by the Special Investigations Unit of the Families and Communities department. Mr Atkinson says the review found it was appropriate to prosecute Mr Easling.

  1. I followed the Easling case. Nothing was ethical about the investigation. Tapes were turned on after investigators first trawled for information for 1 1/2 hours. Some alleged victims were paid money and given gifts to tell stories about Tom Easling. Michael Atkinson has now resigned his Attorney-General position.
The worst part of this whole fiasco, to the best of my knowledge, Tom has not received a cent in compensation, not even reimbursement of almost 2 Million Dollars legal fees.
Actually, one thing is even worse – accused magistrate Peter Liddy is still in jail, almost 10 years. I believe there is also grave doubt about his guilt. The same unit, which tried it on Tom Easling, had first done it to Peter Liddy. Same people, same tricks. Corruption could not get any worse. Judgement day will come. Very soon!
